The Swedish Institute (SI) is inviting applications for the SI Scholarships for Global Professionals for full-time one or two-year master's degree programmes at Swedish universities for 2022 academic year. The scholarship aims to develop global leaders who will contribute to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and contribute to a positive and sustainable development in their home countries.

 

The scholarship programme is targeting ambitious professionals with excellent academic qualifications and leadership experience. Ten (10) scholarships will be granted to eligible South African students.

 

To qualify for the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals, applicants need to have applied to a Swedish university and submitted proof of university application fee payment of 900 SEK (Swedish kronor) approximately R1 580 prior to applying for the scholarship.

Who can apply for the support for university application fees and the scholarship?

 

      -  South African citizens in good health with a strong academic record;

      -  Applicants must be admitted (or conditionally admitted) to a master’s programme at a Swedish university that is eligible for the Global Professionals;

     -   Must have paid the application fee for master’s programmes to University Admissions by the deadline 1 February 2022

     -   Must have had at least 3,000 hours of work experience within the fields in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development prior to 10 February 2022 from a maximum of three organisations/companies (visit https://si.se/en/apply/sisgp-who-can-apply/#other to understand how to calculate employment hours to make sure you qualify. Applicants will be required to provide certification of 3,000 work hours);

      -   Available and eligible to study in Sweden from September 2022;

      -   Intend to return to South Africa at the end of your studies;

      -   Have demonstrated leadership experience from your current or previous employment or from civil society engagements;

      -   Priority will be given to applicants with a strong and relevant professional background and demonstrated leadership experience;

      -   Applicants should not have previously lived in Sweden for more than two years, be currently enrolled for a master's programme at a Swedish university, have previously been awarded an SI scholarship, or hold a degree from a Swedish university.

 

  

What the scholarship offers

  

      -   Tuition fees;

      -   Living expenses of SEK 10,000/month (~R17 000);

      -   Travel grant of SEK 15,000 (~ R25 500) for the entire scholarship period;

      -   Insurance against illness and accident;

      -   Membership of the SI Network for Future Global Leaders (NFGL) – a platform to grow your network and experience, while in Sweden;

      -   Lifelong membership of the SI Alumni Network – a platform for further professional development and to stay in touch.

 

The scholarship does not cover additional grants for family members and university application fees.

 

 

Application process

 

In order to apply for the scholarship, applicants must have applied to a Swedish university through the central application system at: https://www.universityadmissions.se/intl/start and paid the application fees by the due date of 1 February 2022.

 

Submit a Swedish Institute Scholarship application between 10 and 28 February 2022.

 

No applications after the above deadlines will be considered.
