Applications are now open for the Managing Global Governance (MGG) Academy Programme, scheduled to take place from September to November 2026 at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) in Bonn, Germany.

The MGG Academy is an international training and dialogue programme designed for early- to mid-career professionals contributing to global cooperation and sustainable development. The programme brings together participants from Brazil, China, the European Union, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and South Africa, representing government, research institutions, civil society, and the private sector.

The Academy integrates:

  • Academic learning
  • Leadership development
  • Action-oriented collaboration

within a diverse and international learning environment.

Programme Focus

The MGG Academy is built around three core pillars:

  • Learning from diverse and sometimes contrasting perspectives
  • Developing competencies to navigate transformation and cooperation
  • Building a trustful international professional network

Participants engage across three interconnected dimensions:

1. Knowledge Dimension

Understanding global challenges and analysing complex interdependencies.

2. Leadership Dimension

Strengthening personal, interpersonal, and self-leadership competencies.

3. Action Dimension

Designing and implementing a team-based sustainability project.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a national or permanent resident of a participating country;
  • Work on issues related to global governance and/or sustainable development;
  • Hold a minimum Bachelor’s degree;
  • Have 3–15 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Demonstrate strong English language proficiency;
  • Provide written employer support;
  • Commit to a full-time programme (8 hours per day / 40 hours per week);
  • Show openness to intercultural collaboration and reflective learning

Support provided

The participation in the MGG Academy is free of charge.

Participants receive:

  • Accommodation throughout the programme;
  • Monthly allowance for local living expenses;
  • Health, accident, and liability insurance;
  • Local public transport ticket;
  • Programme-related travel costs in Germany and Europe.

Note: The scholarship does not cover international travel to Germany or financial support for family members.

Employer Responsibilities

Sending institutions are expected to:

  • Grant special leave for the full programme duration;
  • Cover round-trip travel costs;
  • Maintain employee employment conditions;
  • Support post-programme knowledge transfer.
